Nearly every toothbrush, plastic or bamboo, uses petroleum-derived nylon bristles. Peer-reviewed studies have measured microplastic particles breaking off those bristles under normal brushing. Ordinary bamboo brushes changed the handle and kept the nylon. BARE replaces both.

Horse hair is markedly softer than boar — fine, flexible, close to silk — and softness is exactly what dentists already recommend to protect enamel and gums. Every bristle is cleaned and sterilised before assembly, and arrives dry, clean and odourless. The hair is collected as a by-product of existing grooming and equestrian industries; no animal is harmed for bristles.

Replace every 8 to 12 weeks, then compost the handle and bristles at home. A pack of four is about a year of brushing.
